To the Diaspora (3) Father of Lights
“Do not mistake this my beloved brothers. Every good and perfect gift comes down from above, from the Father of (Heavenly) lights with whom is no changing, not even the shadow of change “ (Ya’akov 1:16, 17) AENT
“So don’t be mislead my brothers and sisters. What ever is good, and perfect comes down to us from God our Father who created all the lights in the heavens. (Greek from the father of lights ) He never casts a shifting shadow. ( some manuscripts translate “ He never changes) NLT
A bit of a discrepancy between the Aramaic and the New Living .. But at least they refer to other translations that get it right! This is a prime example of why I tell my students to keep more than one translation handy so that one can pick out the odd word picks.
The title “father of lights mentioned in James depicts YHWH as residing from above true but not exactly up there .. Sod is the secret or hidden parts of God. The ancient ones believed that since not even the vast reaches of heaven could contain our Adonai (1 Kings 8:27) so there had to be another dimension to hold the rest of Him! This other place gave room for the ultimate of infinity could reside. This place was referred to as the “highest Heaven “ other wise known as Ein Sof or He that is.
“but this is the bread that has descended from Heaven that a man should eat from this bread, he will live forever. And the bread I give is my body, which I give for the sake of the life of the world. (Yochanan 6:50,51)
The Jewish mystics taught for thousands of years that in this highest heaven all shining splendors (heavenly lights) came from the “Father”
God and His revelation does not change, as we grow old our eyes dim ( we change on how we see or perceive things) His does not. We cast a shadow , but where it rests if even it is revealed is done by light! Since He (Abba) is the source of Eternal light .. His shadow does not move, nor dies it change as it is shed from Him self!
His plan started before our creation, it will continue past .. And we are all part of the plan .. So get with the plan .. Stan!
